The Access Network

The Access Network consists of nine university-based programs co-working with graduate and undergraduate students across the country towards a vision of a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible STEM community. To realize this vision, Access and its member programs empower students as co-leaders, giving them voice and ownership over local and national efforts. Access sites focus on fostering supportive learning communities, engaging students in authentic science practices, and attending to students’ development as STEM professionals. One major goal of the network is to expand on local efforts, by cultivating inter-institutional communities and facilitating the sharing of ideas across sites. I serve as a Core Organizer for the Access Network, where I am developing a Mentorship Program Starter Kit.

COINS

The Committee On INclusiveness in SDSS (COINS) was formed to address issues having to do with diversity, inclusion, and equality in the SDSS collaboration. COINS’ broad goals are to assess the SDSS project and collaboration's climate and demographics, to recommend to the collaboration management new policies or practices with regard to increasing inclusiveness, and to assist in the implementation of these new activities where necessary. COINS publicizes findings to the collaboration, ensures that resources that promote inclusivity are widely accessible, and provides the collaboration tools to improve the climate of equity and inclusion. I serve as the co-chair of COINS.

Planetarium Show Design

Planetariums across the globe immerse audiences in the wonders of space. As a graduate student, I worked extensively in the Arne Slettebak Planetarium at Ohio State. Here I integrated data onto the dome, and developed a live planetarium show about my research to present for my dissertation talk. I am currently collaborating with Fiske to develop a live planetarium show about the origin of the elements and how SDSS is mapping the Milky Way.
